The oldest DNA in history was read from a million-year-old mammoth
Sweden: A team of international geneticists has worked hard for many years to extract the DNA of the world’s oldest mammoth and combine several pieces of DNA to create a complete genetic sequence.
This DNA was extracted from the teeth of three ancient hairy elephants, mammoths, that roamed the Siberian region between seven and twelve million years ago. All of them contained incomplete fragments of DNA, but later a complete DNA was formed from them.
Earlier, DNA from a horse was found to be ancient, dating back to about 550,000 to 780,000 years ago.
