This multi-storey farm will be able to produce 1000 tons annually
Copenhagen: Denmark has launched a brand new multi-storey farm called “Vertical Farm” which is said to produce 1000 tons of various vegetables, fruits and other food items every year.
The multi-storey farm was built by the Danish company Nordic Harvest in partnership with Taiwan’s Yes Health Group on the outskirts of Copenhagen, where all production takes place under one roof.
It has several high-rise cabinets, each with 14 shelves at the top and bottom, which are used to grow a variety of agricultural products. The total “area under cultivation” of all these cabinets is 75,000 square feet (1.72 acres) but the production per acre is estimated at 581 tons per year, which is undoubtedly a very high yield.
Significantly, production in this multi-storey field will depend on modern aquaculture techniques “hydroponics” while these crops will be illuminated with LED lights. All the energy required for this purpose will be derived from wind power and thus the practical emission of carbon dioxide from this project will be zero, ie the field will be “carbon neutral”.
