WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram banned: Social media sites in Pakistan closed for a few hours on Friday to ‘maintain law and order’

Access to social media (Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and Telegram) across the country will be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 16, according to an Interior Ministry order.

Arsalan Khalid, special assistant to the prime minister for digital media, told the BBC’s Sara Atiq on Friday morning that the federal government had temporarily banned social media websites, which would continue until 3pm.

He said the decision was taken to maintain law and order during Friday prayers and the Home Ministry had directed the PTA.
